1 – Can you start by telling us a little about your current book? My Book is called Volucris: Emergence, it's an urban fantasy set a few years into the future, the human population is dying out and a new species hidden for centuries is now emerging. The story follows the main character on her journey of discovery, that she is not human, and the new life she will lead as a Volucris.
2 – Are you a plotter or a panster? I don't write out a formal plot or plan out my characters on the page, however I do spend a lot of time figuring out the story in my head the goals of where I want to end up. I then write and the story often moves in unexpected ways. So I guess I am more of a pantser. It's another reason I am so grateful I found a decent editor to keep me on the straight and narrow!
3 – Savoury or sweet?
Savory now, I used to have a sweet tooth up until I had kids and since then I am savoury all the way. Starters for me instead of pud!
4 – Three books to a desert Island. Go!
Only three!
LOTR I have been a huge fan since my early 20s and never tire of reading them, its pure escapism. I love stories that you really feel you are riding alongside the characters every step of the way.
Crow Investigation Series by Sarah Painter. Love these books that you can easily read many times, gorgeous characters full of passion.
Eragon Series Christopher Paolini. The only dragon book I have ever truly loved, its epic series and the ending stayed with me for a long time. As you can see I am a fantasy geek but there are many shorter novels I would take but for a desert island you need the big epic series!
5 – Star Wars or Star Trek? Star Wars all day every day. 80's kid so there is no other.
6 – If you could have any superpower, what would it be? To be able to take away people's pain and give it back to the person that hurt them. (there is a book that I am trying to develop with this in mind)
7 – Music or Silence when writing? Silence, I love to sing along to music and I can't write and sing (badly).
8 – If you could live anywhere in the world, and take everything that you love with you, where would you choose? New Zealand, it's so beautiful . At the moment if we could move out of the UK we would. It's not a place I feel proud of belonging to and I worry about my three children growing up in a more isolated and insular country.
9 - Your favourite karaoke song? Girls just want to have fun, Cindy Lauper. Because we really do!
10 – One piece of advice to an aspiring writer? Get a decent editor.
11 – You win £1 million, but you must give half to charity. Which charity do you chose, and what do you do with the rest of the money? I would set up my own charity. Not for profit restaurant chain serving good decent food at a low cost. Families can not only come in and just have a decent dinner but it will also give out recipe cards of how to make the food at home. I would spend the rest of the money on buying a house so we don't have to rent and marketing my book!
12 – Horror films, yes or no? If so, any favourites? No I can't watch horror, my imagination is to vivid and it stays with me for a very long time, in my thoughts in my dreams, even if I haven't watched it, it just has to be described to me.
13 - What are you currently working on?
I am working on book 2 in the Volucris series, and two other novels that are completely different. One set against the backdrop of Cornwall when climate change has had an impact and how the sea has re-taken many of the small fishing villages, an elderly lady goes back to relive her past.
